Preemptive Strike

Around this time of year there are a few things on everyone's mind- The trifecta known as The Holidays!  Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s all come at the same time every single year yet, somehow, never cease to take me by surprise.  So, rather than spend the last two months of the year playing catch up, I am making a preemptive strike and making my New Year’s resolution NOW!

Tonight, on the way home from a concert, I had a fleeting thought about the content of my social media posts.  It seems that all of my posts can be categorized into one the following 6 subjects:  God, worship, coffee, football, selfies and the gym.  So, in an attempt to become less predictable, I have decided to dedicate myself to a new category: writing.

I grew up with a love for the written word.  As a small child I loved to be read to more than anything else.  In fact I loved it so much that my mother could keep up with my appetite and devised a plan that gave me unlimited access.  She actually recorded herself reading all my favorite books on VHS by pointing the camera at the pages of the book and reading them aloud.  So, when I wanted to be read to, and my mother wasn't around, all I had to do was push play on the VCR.  Thinking back on it now, the idea was quite genius!  As a teenager I had a unquenchable desire for knowledge and developed the ability to speed read so that I could consume as much literature as possible.

In light of all of this I have decided to give back; no longer simply consuming, but producing the written word.  I am not going to put myself into a box and I am certainly not going to give myself a huge list of rules to follow in this process.  The plan is simple: spend time writing on a daily basis.  What happens after that? Well, we shall just have to wait and see.
